Butt, Bill (BS ’53) – retires after international career

Bill Butt(BS ’53) is retired after working for USDA- Agriculture Research Service in Beltsville, MD, Brownsville TX, Yakima, WA, and Kerneysville, WV. He worked for the International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna, Austria as head of the agency’s entomology laboratory in Seibersdorf, Austria and later at the agency headquarters managing some of the agency’s international research programs. He was also the first director of The Nursery Crop Research Station at Tennessee State University, McMinnville developing research programs and staffing. “I have a number of interests including electronics, collecting military items, photography, travel and hiking. When I lived in Washington State I did mountain climbing and was an active member of the Central Washington Mountain Rescue team. Awards include a Certificate of Merit from the USDA for my work at the Appalachian Fruit Research Station, Kearneysville, West Virginia and a resolution of honor by the Tennessee state senate for my work at the Tennessee State University Nursery Crop Research Station at McMinnville, Tennessee.
